Eggnog Iced Coffee with Bourbon | One Hungry Mama

Move over gingerbread latte, there’s a new killer holiday coffee drink in town. And it has bourbon. (Take that!)

This coffee drink is holiday brunch perfection. It’s also what you need to sip on Christmas morning. That afternoon, too, when you need a pick me up. You don’t have to spike it every time—just great eggnog with great coffee will do you right. Or you can spike it every time.

You may have noticed that I haven’t developed a homemade eggnog recipe. I’ve whipped some up before and, though delicious, nothing tried and tested. I probably should get on that, but it’s easy to skip it when I can get high quality nog from a local dairy. If you can’t, I urge you to find a recipe that looks good because the stuff in the carton found at most mainstream supermarkets just won’t cut it.

If you like the sound of this fine pick-me-up but you don’t do dairy, try making my dairy-free Coquito, the Puerto Rican version of egg nog. Leave the booze out all together or swap bourbon for rum. Or keep the rum and kill the bourbon. Either way, it will be divine mixed with coffee.

Speaking of coffee, I like using cold brew. We used to make our own, but so many super delicious store bought cold brew coffees are now available that we buy the stuff. Religiously.

You should really put this together to taste, but for reference: I use 3 parts coffee to 1 part eggnog. Notice that I don’t add water even though I’m using a coffee concentrate. That’s not a mistake, but you don’t have to follow my lead. If the cold brew is too strong without water, add 1 part of H2O. As for the booze, I’d rather keep the alcohol light in each serving so that I can have more drinks—just a splash of bourbon does me right. You can add more, of course. And don’t forget the fresh nutmeg on top. Seriously.
