Best cookbooks for families 2014 | One Hungry Mama

If you’re a cookbook junkie like me, you probably grew your collection in a big way this year. With so many great new reads, from Prune to A Boat, a Whale & a Walrus, it’s hard to choose a favorite. That said, I can tell you which new releases you should have. Yes, you, family cook. These are my picks for the best cookbooks for families 2104.

If you’re wondering what I mean when I say best cookbooks for families, let me break it down:

Family cooks aren’t just any cooks, we’re time-crunched, picky-busting, taste-juggling cooks who usually have to get dinner on the table in anywhere from 20-40 minutes. These cookbooks are sensitive to that or, in the case of one of my choices, Homemade Decadence from Joy Wilson of Joy the Baker, the recipes have super high kid and grown up appeal.

Aside from Joy’s sweet, salty, gooey, sticky, fluffy, creamy, crunchy treats, my favorite family cookbooks of 2014 offer accessible recipes that are quick or easy to make-ahead, healthy with big flavor, packed with indispensable tips and, in one case, a reminder of how pleasurable home cooking can be. Yes, really.

Check out all of my favorites at Cool Mom Picks and keep an eye out for these at your local indie book store (or hop on over to Amazon from here or Cool Mom Picks). Any one of these will be a wonderful addition to your collection—the part of it that you’ll actually use.
