Summer, summer, summer.
The unofficial start—which is official enough for me—begins this weekend. Since I like getting a head start, I kicked things off last night by seeing the documentary Marley about the great life and music of Bob Marley. (The move is awesome, by the way. Check it out.) And for the rest of the weekend I’ll be grilling, chilling and perhaps enjoying a frozen treat or two.
Since you should do the same, here’s a quick roundup of easy frozen snacks that you can whip up this weekend as well—from ice cream sammys to pops, shaved ice to frozen lemon tarts. And I couldn’t kick summer off without also sharing some live Bob Marley to get you in the spirit. So go ahead: Hit play. It’s time to start summer.
These Frozen Lemon Tarts are ridiculous! And pretty, too. See:
I worked on the recipe for this Cannoli Ice Cream until it was perfect. And so here it is.
I’m obsessed with my Zoku pop maker, so I must share a few great homemade popsicle ideas for the new Zoku Single Pop Maker (on Cool Mom Picks).
If you like key lime pie, you’ll flip for these Key Lime Pie Ice Cream Sandwiches. Oh, right, and the kids will too… if you can manage to save them any!
Check out this inexpensive and well rated shaved ice machine that’s available for overnight delivery! I haven’t tried it, but I sure am tempted to place an order. How good would shaved ice be with my Strawberry Balsamic Syrup or even just plain plain Strawberry Syrup?!? Plus, it’s lighter than ice cream. Yes!
It’s going to be a good summer, friends. Let’s kick things off right.
*Note: Nearly all of these treats are safe to share with kids as young as 6 months old, but I recommend them beginning at 10+ mos due to the high sugar content. No matter how old your eaters, please be sure to serve age appropriate portions. Just a little bit of these sweet treats goes a long way for little ones.
