{sponsored} Spot the FIAT: The Road to Casa Barilla

Barilla Meal for a Meal Bag

I’ve made no secret that Rome is my favorite city in the world. That makes Italy a very special place to me. I feel at home there. The people, the fashion, the warmth… the food.

Oh, the FOOD!

Given my passion for Italy—and Italian food—it was a no-brainer to say, “Si!” when asked to celebrate the Summer of Italy with Barilla, an exciting six-week celebration of authentic Italian food and culture with lots of on-line fun and a bunch of special events in my hometown, New York City. All of the events leads up to the first U.S. Casa Barilla, a four-day celebration in New York’s Central Park from September 13-16 featuring cooking classes, food and culture workshops, children’s activities and more.

I’ve been having a blast galavanting around NYC to attend Summer of Italy events like the Barilla Meal for a Meal giveaway/fundraiser, all of which are open to the public. And now I’m happy to report that the road leading up to Casa Barilla just got a little more adventurous!

From August 23 – September 12, Barilla has five Barilla-branded FIAT cars zipping around the five boroughs visiting hidden Italian treasures—gelato shops, pizzerias and even Italian-influenced parks—around NYC. Barilla will be handing out free tickets to Casa Barilla at each stop and the first five to check-in on Foursquare at select locations will be rewarded with a pair of VIP vouchers to Andrea Bocelli: Live in Central Park.

I know that stopping by an Italian gem for, let’s say gelato, getting free tickets to Casa Barilla and having a chance to win VIP tix to see Andrea Bocelli live in Central Park is enough. But, just in case it isn’t, let me reiterate: there will be a special FIAT at each location! Any mama or papa of a vehicle-obsessed kid (ahem, like mine) knows that this is BIG. Like major-afternoon-activity-fun big.

All you have to do to get in on the excitement is follow Barilla on Facebook or Twitter where the drivers will be announcing where you can find them.

I mean, how cute is that car?! The hungry boys are in love! (With the car, not the pretty girl.)

Barilla FIAT

So, find a FIAT and get ready… Casa Barilla is coming up! In fact, it’s coming up fast! I’ll be posting more details on the four-day party in the next few days. In the meantime, you can pre-register for workshops here. I’m attending “The Art of Olive Oil,” a workshop with Chef Scott Conant about stocking your pantry for casual, celebratory Italian meals and a kid-focused pasta making class! How could you not want to join us?!

This post has been sponsored by the good folks at Barilla, with whom I have entered a paid partnership. They have hired me to help raise awareness of the special events happening in NYC as part of their Summer of Italy. I’m attending events personally so that I can share my experiences with you and all opinions are strictly my own. Read more about One Hungry Mama and sponsorships here.
