Fresh Ricotta and Honey on Toast

This is how we started Saturday morning. Thick, crusty toast smeared with fresh ricotta and drizzled with honey (can be shared with kids 12+ mos)* with berries and coffee (for mama and papa) on the side. Perfection. And not just for any morning. This is also a great snack, dessert or addition to a brunch with friends.

I’m lucky to …

live somewhere were I can get world class fresh ricotta within a stone’s throw. And not just from one source or brand. In fact, it’s a problem because it keeps me from making my own, a process that’s apparently ridiculously easy.

If you can’t get great fresh ricotta or you want to make your own (which you should — I’m finally going to, as well!), select a recipe and get to work. They are all over the web. I think I’ll let this one at 101 Cookbooks by my (first) guide.

Or maybe you have a recipe to suggest!! Do tell: have you made fresh ricotta cheese? If so, what’s your recipe?

*Note: Honey should not be fed to children under 12 months for risk of botulism.

I want this. NOW! I’ve made fresh ricotta and James is famous for his Mozzarella. We even threw a mozzarella making party once. must do again! Cant wait to see how your ricotta turns out. Perhaps we should do a virtual ricotta making party and come up with unique ways to use it!!

Just curious where you get your fresh ricotta? In Brooklyn? Thanks!

Yes, I’m in Brooklyn. But where I get my ricotta depends. I love Salvatore’s. There’s a local place near me that sells it and sometimes I pick it up at the Brooklyn Flea. Provisions in Ft Greene has it, as does Brooklyn Larder in Park Slope. I also love the ricotta at Eatly in the city. They have several house made options. All delish! Hope that’s helpful!
