My recent Apricot Peach Basil Puree (meal for the babe, popsicles for the boy) got me thinking about fruit and herb combos. I love them because the right pairing just makes sense, but still feels a little unexpected. And it’s a great way to introduce young children—even cautious eaters—to new flavors.
I especially love combining fresh herbs with summer fruit that’s at peak ripeness. There is something about how naturally sweet the fruit is that works perfectly with bright, herbaceous flavor notes. (Sounds fancy, no?!)
Take a little jump over to fab Brooklyn parenting blog A Child Grows in Brooklyn for my favorite fruit and herb combinations, along with suggestions on how to use them. And, while we’re on the topic of herbs, take a second peek at this post from March by Jenna of Food with Kid Appeal. In it, she goes over the seriously good-for-you health benefits of fresh herbs for even our littlest eaters.
