{cravings} Snow Cones + Simple Syrup. Yes, Please!

I never had one. Not an easy bake oven, either. But I always wanted one. And now that the weather is getting nice, I just might have to treat myself.
Oh… that’s what my ice cream maker is for, you say? Fair enough. But if you don’t have an ice cream maker, save a bunch a dough (the green kind) and consider one of these babies. You’re hungry kid will like helping. You can control the amount of sugar. And even the tiny ones can cool off with some plain shaved ice.
One more thing. Do me a favor and throw the flavor packets that this surely comes with away. Instead, make your own simple syrup. You can try my Strawberry Balsamic Syrup or even this all purpose Blueberry Puree. Want to go your own way? Simply boil together sugar and water. Less sweet calls for a 1:1 ratio of sugar to water, more sweet a 1 1/2:1 ratio. Add fruit or peel (or ginger or herbs) while the syrup boils and strain them out if you want to make a flavored version.

My bro & I had one of these while growing up, and we loved it! I think we actually wore it out, because I haven’t found it in my parents’ basement. I even bought my bro a new one for his birthday a few years ago – he’s 28!
